Technical Reports
The openURC Technical Committee published approved technical reports defining the implementation specifications for the Universal Remote Console framework.
These reports detail how ISO/IEC 24752 is implemented in practice. They cover the middleware architecture that connects controllers to targets (the Universal Control Hub), the RESTful communication protocol that enables interaction between components (URC-HTTP), a lightweight profile designed for resource-constrained IoT devices (URC-Light), and a conceptual overview that introduces the entire framework to new developers and stakeholders.
Together, these four documents form the practical foundation for building URC-compliant systems. While the ISO standard defines the abstract framework, the Technical Reports provide the concrete specifications that implementers need to develop interoperable products and services.
All four reports were developed by members of the Open URC Alliance e.V., a German-registered consortium that operated from 2012 to 2024. The alliance brought together academic institutions, technology companies, and accessibility advocates to advance the Universal Remote Console standard beyond its ISO definition into practical implementation.
